How Vaping Cannabis Helps Reduce Tobacco Use

How Vaping Cannabis Helps Reduce Tobacco Use

Does cannabis reduce tobacco use? An important question asked these days. Cannabis has been called the devils weed, a schedule 1 drug, and many other names that give the natural occurring plant a bad rep. It is hypothesized that vaping cannabis extracts and using cannabis in general leads to a reduction of the amount of tobacco being consumed.

Some argue that there is no direct relationship between the use of tobacco and cannabis. Others argue the gateway effect or the reverse gateway effect. An additional argument is that the relationship between the two could be due to a psychological association or chemical relationship.

One thing we can agree on, the data collection and research required to make a more educated argument is something that should exist. The tobacco industry has had dark shadow looming over the younger generations for many decades. It would be nice to see a safer alternative substance take the place of tobacco consumption.

Ways Vaping Cannabis Reduces Tobacco Use

A few notable points can be made in favor of the argument that vaping cannabis reduces tobacco use.

Less Spliffs

In most of Europe one of the most popular ways that people consume cannabis is from a 'spliff'. A spliff is a hybrid joint/cigarette that contains part cannabis and part tobacco. In North America people use spliffs as well, but a higher percentage of straight cannabis users. A correlation can be made here that there is a connection between the two substances on the basis of 'psychological association'.

Tobacco in spliffs is used as a filler to make joints last longer. If more cannabis users are using an oil vaporizer they are not being tempted to add extra dry leaf material to make it bigger and longer lasting. One could argue that people will simply switch to a new product that combines tobacco/nicotine juice with THC vape juice. Which in the end would solve nothing. This is a valid argument. However, studies have shown that people who vape cannabis extracts don't mix tobacco concentrates with it. At least not on the same scale as those who mix dry leaf material to create spliffs.

Prevents use by younger generations

This ties a little into the use of spliffs, but as generations continue to get older we will hopefully see a decrease in tobacco users stemming from younger generations. As the influence from older generations gets reduced it will have less of a domino's effect on the ones that follow.

Fights addiction

There are studies done in Canada that propose cannabis is helpful not only in effective pain management but as a substance that helps to fight addiction. There are many studies that try to make a case that cannabis is not a gateway drug. These studies I feel will always show conflicting results as some people can become addicted to the different aspects of cannabis and not necessarily the substance itself.

Prefer cannabis more

A reason that contributes to a reduction in tobacco users is that people prefer cannabis over tobacco. If both were the same price and both as easily accessible, cannabis would be the more popular choice. If people are spending there time on one thing they will often lose interest in another.

Real world observations

It's hard to test the hypothesis that vaping cannabis reduces tobacco use as a study. Test subjects knowing this test is being conducted they may be effected by being aware of the test. For a more educated conclusion on whether or not vaping cannabis reduces tobacco use, real world statistics should be gathered. As time progresses we will be able to gather information and compare the two in more detail.

Conclusion

The data collection and research required to make a more educated argument is something that should exist. The tobacco industry has had dark shadow looming over the younger generations for many decades. It would be nice to see a safer substance that people choose to use in place of tobacco/nicotine.

In this article we will go into detail about what the Hemp plant is, its benefits, and the difference between Hemp CBD and Marijuana THC.

Hemp vs Marijuana

Both Hemp and Marijuana are from the cannabis plant family but hemp is not psychoactive and is high in cannabidiol or 'CBD' and low in THC, marijuana is the opposite - low in CBD and high in THC.

What is CBD

"CBD is just one of the 85 chemical substances in hemp known as Cannabinoids. CBD [is] the 2nd most predominant compound found in hemp and accounts for up to 40% of hemp extracts. CBD unlike THC does not get a person high or provide any psychoactive effects." - VaporSmooth.com

What is THC

"THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical compound in cannabis responsible for a euphoric high. THC and CBD are both cannabinoids." "Cannabinoids are chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant that interact with receptors in the brain and body to create various effects. There exist dozens, and potentially more than 100, cannabinoids in the cannabis plant, but THC is most widely known among these due to its abundance and psychoactive attributes." - Leafly

Differences Between Hemp and Cannabis

Let’s begin by taking a look at the differences between hemp and cannabis plants. "To start with, the two plants look physically different. This is due to the different reasons that both of them are grown. Cannabis, grown for its flowering buds for reasons of smoking or THC extraction, are generally short and wide. Hemp, on the other hand, is tall and narrow as it is not grown for its buds. Hemp is low in THC and is often grown for a variety of purposes including the manufacture of materials.

As mentioned above, cannabis and hemp differ in the levels of naturally occurring THC that they contain. THC is a cannabinoid like CBD. However, its properties are very different and often antagonistic to the effects of CBD. Hemp is naturally high in CBD and low in THC; the reverse is true of cannabis. In fact, hemp contains only about 0.3% – 1.5% THC, while cannabis contains about 5% – 10% or more THC.

This means that the levels of THC and CBD are different in the CBD oil produced from the two plants." - HealthyHempOil.com

What is Hemp Used For

"Hemp can be grown as a renewable source for raw materials that can be incorporated into thousands of products. Its seeds and flowers are used in health foods, organic body care, and other nutraceuticals.

The fibers and stalks are used to make hemp clothing, construction materials, paper, biofuel, plastic composites, and more. Hemp is an attractive rotation crop for farmers. As it grows, hemp breathes in CO2, detoxifies the soil, and prevents soil erosion. What’s left after harvest breaks down into the soil, providing valuable nutrients. Hem requires [little] water to grow - and no pesticides - so it is much more environmentally friendly than traditional crops.

Hemp can do a lot, but it can’t get you “high.” Because hemp varieties contain virtually zero tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), your body processes it faster than you can smoke it. Trying to use hemp to put you on cloud nine will only put you in bed with a migraine!" - Leafly

Hemp: What is the Entourage Effect

"This phenomenon, called the “entourage effect,” results when hundreds of natural components within a plant interact together and with the human body to produce a stronger influence than any one of those components used alone. It’s a synergistic effect. When we combine multiple compounds in their natural state, we don’t end up with the sum of the parts; we get a multiplying effect instead. The different compounds can amplify each other’s effects, making the overall plant more effective in treating the unwanted medical symptoms." - CBDOilReview.org

Learning About the EndoCannabinoid System

The human body is "hard-wired with a system of cannabinoid receptors throughout our brains and bodies. When these receptors are activated, they enable two-way communication between body systems; something previously thought to be impossible.

This system is called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS)

So what does it mean to literally have a cannabinoid system inside the body? It means that we were designed to regularly supply our ECS with the nutrients it was designed for, in support of vital communications between the control centers of the body and every other system.

However, due to the governmental regulation of hemp and cannabis over the last 80 years, most humans living today have gone their entire lives without feeding their bodies these raw materials.

Imagine a large orchestra, and the members being made to play their instruments while blind-folded. They can’t see the conductor and they can’t read the music. Sometimes they get it right, but most of the time it’s a mess. This is your body without the nutrients provided by hemp. Bringing the body back into harmony could be as simple as replacing this lost nutrition." - Elixinol.com

Hemp CBD vs Cannabis CBD

The main difference between "hemp CBD vs cannabis CBD are the differences in levels of CBD and THC the oil contains. Hemp has high levels of CBD and negligible levels of THC and vice versa for cannabis.

CBD has positive implications in a vast number of illnesses and has been shown to boost general health, hair and skin. Research isn’t conclusive here, although it is strong, and in the coming years, we are expecting to see more and more evidence. THC, on the other hand, can benefit other disorders but comes with drawbacks, such as the feelings of being high and possible induction of feelings of anxiety and paranoia and more.

Further to this, CBD is legal whereas THC is not. To use medical marijuana, it has to be legal in the state that you live in plus you need a doctor to prescribe it. Hemp CBD is much more accessible and can be bought from many outlets.

Hemp CBD has also been shown to be safe to use by all, children, pregnant or nursing women, and those who cannot take pharmaceutical medicines who may want to use it as an alternative remedy." - HealthyHempOil.com

Hemp: Omega 6 and Omega 3

The human body "cannot make polyunsaturated fats omega-3 and omega-6, and therefore we need to get these essential oils from our diet in order to survive. Most health experts tend to cite a 3:1 or 4:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 as ideal, but people are eating way too much omega-6 and way too little omega-3. That imbalance is making us sick!

Hemp seed oil provides a solution. It’s the only vegetable oil with a perfect 3:1 balance of omega-6 and omega-3 essential fatty acids. The omegas in hemp seed oil help the beneficial microflora in your gut flourish, while protecting against microbes that threaten your immune system." - UndergroundHealthReporter.com
