What are vapes and vaporizers? Understanding the terminology of vaporizers can be a daunting task. I myself though it was pretty cut and dry before I actually attempted to understand them all my self a few years back. I originally thought that there was just one basic type of vaporizer and that there would be different brands that make them. This is far from reality and today we will help you to understand all the different types of vaporizers.
The two main types of vaporizers we will touch on and the ones that we review here at WorldofVapes are cannabis vaporizers and flavored e-liquid vapes. Cannabis vaporizers come in the form of desktop models and portable models, while flavored e-liquid vapes come in just portable models. After you get a better understanding of the terminology we have a guide that can help you in choosing the best vaporizer.
Cannabis vaporizers are designed to vape the active ingredients in the cannabis plant. Desktop vaporizers are ones that need an external power source to work. Desktop vaporizers are stationary and are made for home use. Some desktop vaporizers have attachments that allow for more then one person to use it at the same time (group session). Portable vaporizers include the heating component and an on board battery that allows you to vape while on the go. For additional vaporizer advice you can read you tips and tricks article here to get the most out of your sessions.
Portable vaporizers is where the terminology gets a bit trickier. Under the umbrella of portable vaporizers there are multi material vaporizers, dry herb vaporizers, and concentrate / extract vaporizers.
The most popular type of portable vaporizer is called a 'vape'. To answer the original question 'what are vapes' - vapes are widely used devices across the world that are used to vape flavored e-liquids. Most vape users use a percentage of nicotine with their e-liquids which in many cases help to ease people off the nicotine/smoking habits. You can check out some of the best vape here.

If you want to take the vaping experience outdoors, there are a few things to consider on how to choose the best vaporizer. How are you going to power it? Is it going to be robust enough to withstand being carried about in a bag or pocket? How discrete do you need to be when you’re vaping? How easy will it be to use? Will the vapor quality it produces be worth the hassle? How much do you want to spend?
Basically, the choice for a cannabis vaporizer will be between a portable vaporizer, a vape pen, or a pre-filled vaporizer. Vaporizers is an umbrella term that is used to encompass multi material vaporizers, dry herb vaporizers, and cannabis extract vaporizers. Extract vaporizers, known more commonly as concentrate vaporizers come in the form of wax pens, enails, and pre filled THC and CBD vaporizer pens.
In this article, we’ll be looking at the features you should be looking for in a portable vaporizer, to help you decide which one’s for you. If you already know the type of vaporizer you are looking for you can enter into one of the following price categories to browse the best devices.
The first question to ask yourself is what do you want to vape. You have three choices of mediums to vape either THC dominant or CBD dominant cannabis:
dry herbs - these are the most common vaping material, they work out cheaper than the alternatives, and they’re easy to prepare. Bear in mind, however, that you’ll have to have a grinder to prepare your herbs for vaping. This is something else you’ll have to tote around with you, along with your herbs themselves and your vaporizer.
waxes - these are more concentrated, produce more vapor, give a stronger effect. The downside is that they’re more expensive, and they can leave a sticky residue inside your vape chamber which can be a pain to remove.
Oils and Liquids - these are convenient and easy to tote around. CBD oil is a cannabis compound that does not include psychoactive effects and BHO (butane hash oil) is high potency THC.
Many portable vaporizers are designed for use with any of the above materials. Some require attachments for use with e-fluids. To be honest, if you’re going to vape e-fluid, you’d be better off with a pen. But what you’re vaping is an important consideration, as some devices perform better for your preferred materials than others. And it’s worth taking that into account.
Prices vary, from around $30 to around $400. But, as my old man used to say: you get what you pay for. If you have the money, it's a good idea to invest it in the best vaporizer you can afford (‘the best’ being the one that has the qualities that are important to you).
That said, not all inexpensive vaporizers are bad, and not all expensive vaporizers are worth the money. Again, see what more experienced vapers are saying to help you decide which device offers the best value within your budget. The following links provide you with some of the most popular devices filtered by price.
It’s important to check the build quality of the device. Some designs are flimsy and prone to getting damaged, especially if you’re the clumsy type. This is particularly true of devices that have glass components. Some can break down after only a few months or require a bit more maintenance to keep them working efficiently. Lucky, the market’s full of great options.
The problem is that, while a device might look great on the outside, it’s what goes on in the inside that really counts, and this is hard to judge just from looking at it.
The best tip is to read the reviews and comments on a wide range of websites. Folks who have already tried out a particular device are the best placed to tell you how well it’s been put together and how well it functions.
Also, look for a manufacturer’s warranty. These are usually only offered by makers who are really confident it the build quality of their product.
As I say, the market’s full of great options. The competition between manufacturers is fierce, which means they’re generally keen to ensure their devices don’t disappoint. Again, find out what other vapers are using and you won’t go far wrong. Customer reviews are very helpful and usually the consensus is on the right path.
This is ultimately what it all comes down to: the quality and flavor of the vapor your device produces.
Flavor is one of the more subjective qualities when it comes to vaping. But what creates good flavor (apart from the quality of your material itself) are the heating chamber, air pathway, and mouthpiece.
Glass is the best material to have in a vaporizer. Although it’s breakable, it won’t affect the flavor at all because of its smoothness and purity. However, because they’re more efficient at heating up and cooling off - and also because they are less fragile than glass - ceramic and stainless steel are also commonly used, especially within dry herb vaporizers. While they detract from flavor just a little (it’s hard to notice unless you’re a real connoisseur), either of these materials still produce excellent flavor. So don’t get too hung up about it.
Heating temperature also affects flavour. As a general rule, lower heating temperature produce a smoother taste but smaller clouds, while high temperature produce larger clouds but a harsher taste. Look for a vaporizer which has good and accurate temperature control, so you can experiment to get the vapor quality you prefer.
Some devices heat your material by passing hot air through it (convection) while others heat it by direct contact with a hot surface (conduction). The general consensus is that convection heating is more efficient and gets more from your material than conduction heating does.
However, it comes at a price. Convection is more difficult – and more expensive – to achieve. Hence, conduction heating is more common in portable vaporizers
The biggest drawback to conduction vaporizers is that you run the risk of combusting your material instead of vaporizing it. Conduction is also an uneven method of heating, which means you have to periodically stir or shake the material.
One of the most important considerations in choosing a portable vaporizer is its ease of use. Portable vaporizers lack the hefty power supplies found in desktop models, so you’ll need to think about how often and how long you want your sessions to last. By far the most prevalent portable vaporizers use replaceable and.or rechargeable batteries to power their heat source. Some are compatible with standard AA batteries, making them a bit more versatile.
Chargeable devices come with their own USB-ready chargers, which mean you can recharge almost anywhere you have a power source.A number of portable vaporizers on the market are designed for discrete use. These devices often have profiles that make them look like pens, drink cups, asthma inhalers, and other common items. While stealth vaporizers are fairly inconspicuous, some users may find them lacking in functionality. Some don't have precision temperature controls or quite as many safety features. Nonetheless, their relatively low price means they still serve a function as carry-along devices.
As with everything, however, the technology is always improving. A number of portable vaporizers feature digital temperature controls that allow users to select specific heat-outputs. Others simply incorporate level switches with preset high/low functionality. Advanced heat control systems are generally more expensive though.
Also bear in mind that small vaporizers are often harder to clean and maintain than larger models. While portable vaporizers are fine for occasional use, some lack the build quality needed to survive wear and tear, and cheaper models with non-removable heat elements may be irreparable following breakdowns.
Portable vaporizers can be fun ways to vape on the go, and there are a number of options available. The two golden rules when choosing the best one for your needs are:
Consider functionality and practicality before novelty.
Make sure to do your research. Find out what others are saying about the various devices on the market and be guided by their experience. For more information on choosing a vaporizer you can read our vaporizer tips and advice article.

Vaping is popular in the cannabis community. It offers users a healthier, safer alternative to lighting a joint or smoking a bong. Here we will touch on some vaporizer tips and advice that you may find useful.
You might find it daunting when starting out. Here are a handful of tips to help you get the best out of your vaping experience. The key virtue of vaping is that it avoids combustion. Unlike smoking, vaping extracts the main compounds from the plant without burning the plant material. There are two main types of vaporizer. One uses convective heating, while the other uses conductive heating. Convective vaporizers heat the air around the plant material. Conductive vaporizers heat the surface underneath it.
Inhaling cannabis smoke exposes you to many adverse health effects similar to those of smoking tobacco. Because vaping produces vapor instead of smoke, it offers users a healthier alternative to smoking. It also extracts more cannabinoids, terpenes and other compounds from your buds. THC, CBD, and other key components in cannabis evaporate at low temperatures (300+°F or 150+°C). Joints, bongs and blunts burn at much higher temperatures and waste a lot of weed. By vaping, you can heat your herb to the exact temperature needed to extract its essential compounds. It also means you use less weed.
You first need to grind your herb. Using a grinder helps to break down your cannabis buds to a fine and even quality. This releases more cannabinoids (like THC), from your plant material. Not every dry herb vaporizer needs the same grind. At lot depends on whether you have a conduction vaporizer or a convection vaporizer. If you have a conduction vaporizer, you need to grind your herb as fine as you can. There are a number of reasons for this. First, to transfer heat efficiently, your herb needs to be compact and this is best achieved with a fine grind. Secondly, you want as many particles as possible in contact with the wands in the heating chamber.
The finer your grind, the more particles you'll expose to contact. To grind your herb this level of fineness, you need a proper herb grinder. If you have a convection vaporizer, your herb is heated by the circulation of hot air. So the trick here is to maximize airflow in your herb chamber. Grinding your flower increases the surface-area of exposure of your herb. This means that the hot air will heat it more thoroughly. 'Finger-grinding' produces the more fluffy grind that's perfect for convection vaporizers. But if you’re vaping large amounts, there are herb grinders that provide you with the same effect.
To pack your vape, you first need to remove the cover to your herb chamber. Then you take your ground herb and gently load it into the chamber. Remember that, when using your vape, air needs to pass through the chamber. So, make sure you don't overfill your herb or pack it too tightly. Give it room to breathe! All vapes are different and have varying heating methods. Convection-style vapes generally perform best with loosely packed herb. On the other hand, conduction-style vapes generally perform best with a tighter pack.
To optimize your vaping sessions, experiment with tighter and looser packs. A lot of this is down to personal preference and experimenting is part of the fun. But packing your vaporizer is essential to producing the experience you want. How you pack your vaporizer depends on whether you have a conduction or convection vaporizer. If you have a conduction vaporizer, pack it tightly, but not so tightly that there's no airflow. The optimal packing-level is different per vaporizer. It also depends on what you like, and ultimately you'll have to experiment yourself. As a general rule, though, if you have a convection vaporizer, pack it loosely to allow a proper airflow. With convection vaporizers, never fill it more than 80%-90% - and never compress it.
Having packed your vaporizer, you now have to fire it up. Most vapes have adjustable temperature settings, which influences the quality of your vapor. Generally, low temperatures deliver more flavorful hits, while higher temperatures deliver stronger hits. It's a good idea to start at lower temperatures, then work your way up to the higher temperatures. Again, experiment until you find out what's right for you. You should refer to your personal vape manual for specific instructions. The following guidelines provide only general advice.
Different temperatures serve different vaping needs. The higher the heat, the closer you'll come to a smoke-like experience and the stronger effect your vapor will have. However, the higher you set your temperature the more your flavor will spoil. It's called the ‘burnt popcorn taste’. This taste becomes more prevalent the higher in temperature you go. Your vapor will also be harsher, but you’ll get larger and more intense clouds. In general: Low temperatures (320°F/160°C - 356°F/180°C) will give you:
light mental effects
very weak bodily effects
Mid temperatures (356°F/180°C - 392°F/200°C) will give you:
moderate to strong mental effects
moderate to strong physical effects
High temperatures (392°F/200°C - 446°F/230°C) will give you:
intense mental effects
very strong physical effects
larger, more intense clouds
When you think about it, the batteries are the single most important piece of vaping kit. If you don’t have power, you don’t have vapor. When you notice your battery starting to die, don’t let it die completely. Connect it to the charger. It can take an age to charge from scratch, and the last thing you need when you feel like a sesh is a flat battery. When the battery is fully charged, remove it from the charger. It might seem like a good idea to keep it on until you're ready to use it, but this can affect the battery life.
A lot of batteries have what's called ‘ego threading’, which means the charger screws right onto the battery. Don’t over-tighten this, as it could damage the charger or battery. Make sure the battery isn’t getting hot when in use. This is a warning that something’s wrong. Take it out right away and troubleshoot what the problem might be.Don’t use batteries that have rips in the wrapping or are dented or damaged in any other way. These can leak out and damage your device. Most importantly, don’t leave your batteries in direct sunlight. This can cause them to explode. Keep them in a cool dark place.
Vaporizers come in all different shapes and sizes, from desktop to pens. In between is the portable vaporiser, which is a compromise between the power of the desktop and the portability and discreteness of the pen.
Desktop vaporizers are the original dry herb vaporizers. Typically, desktop vapes offer precise temperature control and different options for inhalation. The most common vapor path is a whip style, which is comprised of glass and medical grade tubing to inhale the vapors produced. Forced-air units employ fans to drive heat over the vaping materials. Because of their size, desktop vaporizers are for home use.
Portable vaporizers offer the option of on-the-go vaping. Thanks to rechargeable batteries, these vapes are not tied to an outlet. While some offer dual functionality, the majority are optimized for either dry herb or concentrate vaping. The quality of the vapor created varies, depending on the type of heating element employed. Ceramic or glass offers better flavor.
Vape pens are generally conduction vaporizers - that is, they heat material directly against the heating element. This means a vape pen may not have the kind of vapor purity that a portable vaporizer or desktop vape has. But it’s certainly more discreet, easy-to-use, and affordable. Vape pens come in three types: dry herb pens, wax pens, and e-liquid pens. Some vape pens are hybrid. Vape pens offer the most inconspicuous usage and usability for the beginner.
Clean your vape after every session. Herb is sticky after exposure to heat. For smooth running sessions, you definitely need to clean your vape of any old residue.
Avoid poking sharp metallic objects down your herb chamber, because this may cause damage. Instead, use a slightly damp cotton swab to clean the inside of the chamber.
Make sure your vape is charged! If your vape isn’t charged, this can seriously ruin your session by cutting it short.
Avoid the wrong herbs. Wet herbs won’t vaporize properly. Neither will overly dry herbs. If you can crush the herb into a powder between your fingers, don’t use it.
We hope these tips help you avoid the most common stumbling blocks when starting to vape. If you are looking to learn more about vaporizers you can read our article on how to choose the best vaporizer here.

The build quality of the Puffco Plus is of high quality. Puffco makes premium vape pens. This shows in the overall quality of the components in all their devices. The Puffco Plus comes with an extra oven chamber, which you can use as an extract container. The coiless ceramic oven and the built in dabber tool make for a great vaping experience. And the outer casing of the pen is made from durable stainless steel. I'd have to say that this is one of the best-built wax pens I've used to date. Another that comes to mind is the KandyPens Gravity.
If you've used other Puffco models, you'll know their pens perform well and the power output is carefully thought out. The Puffco Plus uses an all-ceramic chamber, which gives a clean e-nail like hit. Since the Puffco Plus doesn't use any coils, it doen't create any burning taste and delivers flavorful draws.
The Puffco Plus has three temperature settings to choose from. The lowest delivers the best flavor. The highest can deliver the entire chamber very quickly, similar to that of an e-nail. So, depending on how you want your vapor, you can load either a small amount or a large amount and set the temperature to enjoy a longer, tastier session or to take a punch
The Puffco Plus is a good looking device. It’s compact, shiny and simple. The airflow design is very subtle. There is only one button (the Puffco symbol) and it lights up to let you know what the device is doing.
The Puffco Plus has a session mode. You just double tap the cloud button to keep the heating chamber going for 12 seconds. No having to hold down the button. This allows you to pass the pen to someone else without the chamber cooling down. Or just enjoy a longer hit or a small break.
Currently, the Puffco Plus only comes in a stainless steel finish. No other color options are available. I, for one, really like the look and feel of this pen. Although I'd also like to see it in both a darker chrome color and a white finish.
You can easily conceal the Puffco Plus in one hand. It's also small enough to slip into your pocket or a small carrying bag. . On the higher settings, it heats up fast and you can quickly get a draw and power it back down if you only have a short window of opportunity. On the lower settings, it creates less visible vapor. So, overall, the Puffco Plus is a pretty discrete unit.
The Puffco Plus is very easy to use. It has a simple one-button operating system. The device turns on by pressing the cloud button five times and off by doing the same. In session mode, the heating chamber stays on for twelve seconds straight. Or you can use it normally by pressing the button as you inhale. The Puffco Plus heats up instantly and delivers vapor quickly and smoothly. It has three different temperature settings - low, medium and high. I found the the lower two settings were all I needed. To switch between settings you press the button quickly four times.
The oven chamber is easy to keep clean. And, since you don’t have to worry about coils, it’s even easier. The Puffco Plus comes with some handy cleaning tools and tips to keep your pen good shape.
The Puffco Plus is slim and compact. The length is actually shorter than that of a normal writing pen. The strong build quality makes it a pen you don’t have to worry too much about. It is solid, durable and robust. The battery can last a full day with heavy use and a few days with lighter use. If you're travelling with material in the pen, and if the pen is still hot, you should keep the mouthpiece up to lower the risk of clogging the vapor path.
The Puffco Plus is a winner in my books. It costs less than $100 and has a high build quality. It also has some unique features not seen in other pens. It's easy to use, easy to maintain and performs very well. I know it's unusual, but I don’t really have anything bad to say about this product. If you're someone who vapes concentrates, this is a great little dab pen for the job.

Puffco has a new addition to its popular line of wax concentrate pens - the Pro 2. The Pro 2 is Puffco's smallest vaporizer yet. It features a sesh mode that generates twelve seconds of continuous vapor. In this review, we'll look at build and vapor quality, look and feel, discreteness and portability, and ease of use. Then we'll round up with an overall assessment of how it fits with your needs. The Puff

The build quality of the Puffco Pro 2 is better than your average vape pen. Puffco makes its devices to last. You can pretty much toss it off the side of a building and it'll still live to vape another day. It has a durable stainless steel shell and a single coil ceramic chamber. The Pro 2 is a redesign of the Pro 1 and it's about 30% smaller than the first model.
The Pro 2 comes with the added bonus of a matte black rubberized travel case. Not only does this keep your pen and charger safe when you're out and about, it looks smart too.
The Pro 2 has a large ceramic oven that uses a single ceramic coil. This is an upgrade on the original Puffco Pro. The coil is bit smaller and engineered to have minimal dead spots. The Puffco Plus has an all ceramic chamber which is good for flavor. The chamber is also dual quartz. So the Puffco Pro 2 kinda falls in the middle of those two, which works pretty well.
The Puffco Pro 2 has three preset temperatures. The lower two settings deliver more flavor. The highest gives a faster hit and more visible vapor. The highest temperature wasn't too hot. Unlike some pens, whose top temperature is too high, this was at a good level. When compared to the Puffco Plus, the Plus has better vapor versatility. But this comes at a higher price for which you receive multiple heating chambers.
The Pro 2 consist of three parts - the mouthpiece, chamber and the battery. The mouthpiece is snap-on rather than threaded, which is quicker to work with, making it easy to load and keep clean. The Pro 2 has a guard in the mouthpiece. This prevents your material from splashing during sessions or running upwards while in your pocket. It also helps to keep anything loose in your pocket from entering the heating chamber.
The Pro 2 is a good looking device. I’s compact and simple. The airflow design built into the mouthpiece is so subtle you'd barely notice it.
The Puffco Pro 2 has a session mode. You just double tap the cloud button to make it run for 12 seconds continuously. This is an improvement on the original Puffco Pro, which didn't have this feature.
The Puffco Pro 2 is a very small. It's 30% smaller than other Puffco models. You can hide the Pro 2 in one hand. And it’s so small you barely feel it in your pocket. The Pro 2 heats pretty much instantly. You can quickly get a draw and power it back down when you only have a few seconds to take a hit. You can do this very efficiently with the Pro 2. It's faster, even, than the Puffco Plus.
The Pro 2 is an easy-to-use device, with a one button control design. The device turns on by pressing five times and off by pressing another five times. You can use the Pro 2 in session mode for 12 second draws. Or you can do the standard hold-the-button-down, which really is the same thing. The Puffco Pro 2 has three temperature settings: green - low; blue - medium; white - high. To use the Pro 2, simply load in your dab, choose your preferred heat setting, and inhale. It's as easy as that!
The Puffco Pro 2 is a very compact wax pen. It's 30% smaller than the original Puffco Pro. It's just 4.5″ in length and 0.5″ in diameter. I'm happy with the performance this little unit boasts. Puffco's done a good job in making a solid affordable wax pen that's easy to use and easy to maintain. On a size note, the Pro 2 is the best choice of the Puffco models. The Pro 2 is also performs pretty well in terms of battery life. This is because the atomizer is pretty small and has just one coil. The Plus does have a larger battery. But it drains faster, since you're either using a dual coil or a chamber and the whole thing needs to be heated.
The Puffco Pro 2 comes with a clamshell case to protect your device. It also has room to carry the battery, charging connector, dab tool, and mouthpiece/atomizer. The case has a matte black rubberized finish, which has a classy look and feel.
Overall, the Puffco Pro 2 is a solidly performing vape pen that comes at a really good price. The build quality is well above average, and so is performance. It would have been nice to see this model come with another oven chamber or other extra. But I guess that's how they were able to price it so low.

The Loto Lux is a new release that uses induction heating to cook your material. It's the first ever vaporizer to use electromagnetism to heat dry herbs, liquids, or concentrates. Formerly called the Evoke, the Lux has been in development for quite some time. At last it's available for purchase. In this article we'll look at what we know and what we've seen of the Lux vaporizer.
The big draw of the Lux is its heating technology. This uses magnets to heat-up the rod and in turn your material. This will give industry leaders like the Mighty and Crafty a run for their money. It will also compete with the Utillian 721, one of the most budget-friendly premium devices on the market. These use convection rather than conduction heating to vaporize materials. Electromagnetic induction heating is truly innovative. We were keen to find out how it would perform. Read on to discover what we found.
The Lux uses Bluetooth technology to connect the device to your smart phone. Only a handful of devices currently offer this facility. And it's something that makes your device much more powerful and personal. Apps can monitor your sessions and record what works and what doesn’t work for you. They also store your favorite settings. The Lux app is one of the most functional currently available.
The Lux is made from top quality materials and components. The body itself is classy wood and aluminum. The Lux comes with three different glass cartridges. One is for use with concentrates, one for liquids, and one for dry herbs. You slide the right cartridge for the job into the unit and position the mouthpiece over it. Inside the cartridge there's a metal insert. This is what gets heated to vape your materials. A computer chip inside the unit helps run the device and connects it to Bluetooth.
The Lux vaporizer has been a long time in the making. It was a silicon valley startup that first had the idea in 2014. Now, after years of R&D, a conduction vaporizer that uses electromagnetic heating is born.
Loto Labs has filed a couple patents for their new vaporizer. It has now begun shipping the device to those who've backed its development. The whole project has been crowdfunded and the Lux has enjoyed some great exposure throughout its development.
The Lux has a very modern look. The grip has an ergonomic design to make it feel good in your hand. There's just one button. And the version we've seen has a classic wood finish with aluminum lines.
The Lux is a little bit bigger than other popular devices such as the PAX, the Crafty and the Da Vinci. But the Lux can vape all three materials. This makes it one of the most advanced portable vaporizers on the market in 2017.
We'll have to wait and see what the vapor quality and performance of the Lux will be. But here's my prediction. I think the induction part is a bit overhyped and vapor quality will be much the same as that produced by other means. Electromagnetism heats the metal insert, which in turn heats your material. This doesn't seem all that different from conduction heating. It will still be surface heat that heats the material. I may be wrong - I'm no expert in thermodynamics. But this is how it seems to me.
It seems that the Lux is nearer to conduction heating than to convection. And convection vaporizers in my opinion will still have an advantage in how it heats your materials. Convection heats materials by forcing hot air through them. This cooks materials more evenly and lowers the chances of them combusting.
I think the Lux will perform well for concentrates and e-juice. The heat-up time is supposed to be pretty much instant. This will give big fast hits similar to a powerful battery mod. So the Lux may suit the nicotine e-liquid crowd more than the cannabis crowd. Again, I could be wrong. And I'll correct myself in an updated article if I am. But this is my current view.
Since this is a speculative article, I can't give a yes/no answer to whether you should spend $399 on this new device. What I'd suggest is that you wait until you see some user reviews or an updated review from us. The Lux is expensive and it's using an untried method to vape three different materials. And there's no guarantee it will produce superior results. The jury, as they say, is still out.
We’ll do our best to get some hands-on experience so we can share more with you. I wish the Lux well and hope I'm wrong in my surmise about how it will perform with dry herbs. Once we're able to test the Lux for ourselves, we'll bring you a more detailed review.
The KandyPens Prism, released in 2017, is a new vape pen for wax and oils. This is the smaller of the two Prism models. There is a slightly larger version called the Prism Plus. KandyPens has produced the Prism in a limited edition of only 500 (more will likely become available if they sell out). However, the price is still very reasonable.
KandyPens is one of the most well-branded vape companies. It enjoys a presence in many music videos by top artists. In this article, we'll review how well the Prism performs. We'll look at its build and vapor quality, look and feel, discreteness, portability and ease of use.

The Prism's build quality is above average for units in this price range. It has an outer casing of medical-grade electro-plated stainless steel. And the package comes with two heating chambers: ceramic and quartz/titanium.
The battery that comes with the Prism is below average. It's actually one of the smaller ones I've seen in a wax pen. The most common battery that comes in low end wax pens is the 650 mAh. The Prism uses a 320 mAh. The battery does however come with a lifetime warranty. Overall, though, for the low price, the unit does have pretty good build quality.
The Prism produces pretty good vapor. And with a price tag of under $100, it's actually pretty impressive. As we mentioned above, the Prism comes with two different style heating chambers. The dual quartz/titanium coils deliver faster more dense vapor hits. The all-ceramic chamber works well for flavor delivery.
The device comes with four preset temperatures: 320°, 350°, 390°, 430°. I preferred the two medium settings with the all-ceramic chamber. The two higher settings worked better with the quartz chamber. The highest was fine, but I feel it may have vaped my herb a little too quickly. So, with the quartz chamber, the third setting was the optimum for me.
The Prism is available in either black or white models. It’s a good weight and feels more durable than other pens in the same price range. The glass mouthpiece is something I liked. I produces cool smooth vapor and is easy to keep clean.
As mentioned earlier, the Prism is the smaller version of the model. The Prism Plus is a bit larger. The compact size of the Prism makes it small enough to fit in most pockets. It's also very easy to conceal in your palm. Black is obviously the more discrete of the two color options.
The Prism's four heat settings is four more than you'll get with most low priced wax pens. This lets you choose a lower heat to cut the amount of visible vapor. Of course the lower the setting, the longer it takes to produce any vapor. But it does give you the option of a quick more-vapor session or a slower less-vapor one. And it's one you won't get with other wax pens under the $100 mark.
The Prism is a simple device to get used to. It has only one button. To turn the Prism on, you click the button five times. You press it another five times to turn it off. Each of the presets has its own color, which display around the button. Yellow = 320 °F, Green = 350 °F, Red = 390 °F, and Blue = 430 °F. It's simplicity itself!
As with any portable vaporizer, the Prism should be fully charged before it's first used. You should also run it through a session on the highest setting with no material in it. This burns away any leftover materials from the manufacture. It also prevents plastic tainting of the vapor later on.
Both the Prism and the Prism Plus need to be pre-charged before use. Once you've loaded your material and you're ready to go, just hold down the power button. The unit will heat up instantly. You can then start to take slow draws... and enjoy.
The Prism has a small less-than-average battery. It would have been nice to see at least a 650 mAh battery. But it seems as if the 350mAh does a pretty good job anyways. The compact size and carry case make this pen easy to tote around wherever you go.
You can use the Prism while charging thanks to its pass-through charging facility. This means you can vape when fully charged or wherever you can plug in.
The Prism is solid and affordable, with above average build and vapor quality. The glass mouthpiece, four heat settings, and two oven chambers make it more than just a simple pen. The Prism Plus is larger and more powerful, and costs a bit more. The Prism is smaller and more compact, making it portable and discreet.
